MEDICARE REBATES
You may be able to access a Medicare rebate, if your GP or psychiatrist assess you as eligible. In these instances, your GP will refer you via a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). Please note that the assessment and preparation of a MHTP takes time and usually requires you to book a longer appointment. Please contact your GP’s practice to enquire. Psychiatrists’ referrals can be via letter. Please ask your GP or psychiatrist to email the referral or MHTP to welcome@thefoundrypsychology.com
The current rebate (what you will receive back from Medicare) is $141.85, meaning there will be a gap fee to pay. A MHTP allows you to access up to ten (10) individual sessions per calendar year.
PRIVATE INSURANCE REBATES
Private health insurance rebates vary between funds. Please contact your health fund before attending your session to determine whether clinical psychologists’ services are covered and the amount of your rebate. It is important to note that you cannot use your private health rebate to cover the gap arising from a Medicare rebate.

FAQs
-
A clinical psychologist is a psychologist who has expertise in the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and psychological treatment of psychological (mental health) disorders across the lifespan. Australia has some of the most rigorous training for clinical psychology in the world. Clinical psychologists study and train for a minimum of eight years and must be ‘endorsed’ as clinical psychologists by the Australian Health Practitioners’ Regulation Authority (AHPRA), under National Law. Clinical psychologists are required to uphold their skills during their career, including undertaking ongoing professional development and accessing clinical supervision (or peer consultation). Clinical psychologists use ‘talking therapies’ and behavioural approaches to bring about long-lasting change for their clients. They are not medical doctors and do not prescribe medication.

We use a range of evidence-based techniques such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychodynamic therapy, systemic therapies, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) to tailor our approach to meet your unique needs and concerns.

Telehealth sessions are conducted via a secure video platform, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your home while maintaining confidentiality and privacy. If you are Perth-based, we generally recommend having your first appointment in our office, where we can discuss whether telehealth might be suitable and how best to set this up in a safe and secure manner.
We will send you a link for your telehealth appointment. You just need to make sure your laptop, PC or mobile phone has a working microphone and camera, and that you have a safe and private space, free of interruptions, for your session. -
Currently, our psychological treatment services are available to Australian residents only, but international clients can explore our coaching or consulting options.
-
No, a referral is not required. However, depending on your clinical concerns, your GP may refer you with a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This will allow you to access a rebate from Medicare. To access clinical psychology services via your private health insurance, please contact your health insurer regarding their referral requirements.

Just by being here, you’ve already started. We understand that seeing a clinical psychologist can seem daunting, but we’re dedicated to providing a safe, judgement-free space for you to explore your concerns.
For many people, accessing clinical psychology services starts with a visit to their GP. Although a GP referral is not always necessary, it is a good idea to involve your GP in your psychological care. The next step is to contact us via our booking platform. We will call you to discuss your referral and see how best we can help. (In some instances, we may recommend alternative services with greater expertise in certain areas.) From there, we will book your first appointment and send you some initial paperwork for you to complete prior to your first appointment, including consent forms, privacy information and psychological measures. Then you’re good to go! -
That really depends on the reason you are seeking psychological treatment, and the duration and impact of your difficulties. At your first session, we will discuss your goals and suggest the best way forward. Our objective is to have you feeling better and more engaged with life as quickly as possible, and to give you the skills to manage any future difficulties.
